Chapter Seven
In Chapter Seven, Graff and General Levy talk about the kids; Levy is concerned for them. Graff reacts incredulously towards Levy’s concerns. Levy reasserts his position. Ender and Alai eat talk over dinner. As they head back to the barracks, they receive news of Ender being transferred to Salamander Army. Ender once again plays the mind game, advancing farther until he reaches a door labeled “The End of the World.” In Salamander Army, Ender befriends Petra and makes an enemy of Bonzo Madrid. Ender is told to stay out of the way during battles and he does so. Due to technicalities, Ender ends up being rated the best soldier. After a few times of that happening, and Ender’s disobedience, Bonzo trades Ender to the Rat Army. Bonzo hated Ender because of his talents, kindness, and his ability to make Bonzo appear stupid to his peers; he becomes a antagonist towards Ender during the rest of his stay at the Battle School.
Chapter Eight
In Chapter Eight, Graff and Anderson have an argument over the fairness of the games. Each person putting up their own perspectives and support for their arguments. In the Rat Army, Ender is under the orders of Rose the Nose. Ender learns from Dink Meeker, but still can pick up on his mistakes. The commander of the Rat Army and Ender come to clash. At the next battle immediately after the clash, the Rose sends Ender to be frozen but he ends up freezing many of the enemy. Rose ceases to question Ender. Dink and Ender have a conversation on Dink’s decisions and other things. Ender comes to the realization that ulterior motives must be taken into account. Ender and several other boys end up fighting; Ender wins. He sees Peter’s reflection when he looks into a mirror. He then believes that the reason why he sees Peter is because he is slowly becoming Peter. In his honest opinion, he thinks the worst of Peter and for him to become Peter is the ultimate emotional and physical defeat.
Chapter Nine
In Chapter Nine, Graff and Imbu have an argument over the appearance of Peter in Ender’s game. They come to the understanding that no one, not even the computer, intentionally put Peter into Ender’s game. Valentine has not forgotten Ender. She realizes certain things about Peter, and he realizes certain things about Russia and a possible land war. They become allies and enter politics, as a radical and a moderate. Their ideas spread, and Peter is forever patient. Ender is enjoying massive success at the Battle School, but he is miserably unhappy with his life. Graff knows this and so goes to Valentine for help. He asks her to write a letter to Ender. Ender receives, reads, and sees through the letter immediately. He becomes furious and enters the mind game once again. Valentine appears and Peter doesn’t. Ender is happy that Valentine will always be with him.
